Adults will cycle the entire length of the prom to Rossall Grange Lane, by the golf course.Β (what 3 words ///headed.smarter.interrupt)Β Adults will cycle to Rossall Grange Lane and then return to Balmoral Terrace completing 4 laps. Each lap is approximately 5Km Whilst the road is wide, care must be taken at the turn points and normal road rules apply. Β On completing the fourth lap you will turn left into transition. There will be cones marking the entry point. On the first, second, third lap adults must stay on the outside of these.
On returning to transition you must dismount at the mount line and return your bike to its racking position. Do not remove your helmet until you have racked your bike.
Tri Start and Tri Star 1,2,3Β
Upon exiting transition, there is a slight incline leading from the car park to the promenade. Cyclists will mount their bikes at the bottom of this ramp. Once on The Esplanade, all cyclists must turn LEFT and perform a U-turn at the end of The Esplanade, at Balmoral Terrace. After completing the U-turn, they will then all cycle to the turning point at Agnew Road and then return to the road that enters the YMCA carpark to either go to transition or head out for another lap. See race booklet for each Tri start lap information.
YOUTH
Youth participants will complete two full laps. After turning at Balmoral Terrace, continue past the pool to the large roundabout and proceed straight to the turn point at Rossall Grange Road, by the Golf Course. Turn there and cycle back. After passing the pool, complete a second full lap, then turn left into the pool area. This constitutes a 10km route.
With your race number now on your front, leave transition on the sea side between the pool and Marine Hall onto the Sea Wall pavement and turn left.Β Β
Adults will run past the lakes towards the golf course and turn on the spot and run back.Β
Adults run past the coastguard point and on to the split level Prom to turn.Β Β
Children will turn to the clearly marked turning point and run back. Do NOT turn until you see your turn point, keep going it is there.
The 4th discipline...
Here are some tips to make race day a little bit smoother.
1) Layout your kit in the order you need it. (Always put helmet on first!)
2) What row are you in?
3) Make a note of how far you are from "swim in", walk the route and count the steps, it will help you remember your racking slot when you come out of the water.Β
4) Look for landmarks (Flags, kiosks, trees) level with your space to give a visual reference to where your spot is. (once you get near you should see the bike and your towel.
5) Don't panic, slow is smooth, smooth is fast!
By doing the above you can save minutes off your time, practice putting your kit on and off, it will make you efficient come race day!
