Exiting transition from the car park to the prom is a very slight incline.Β Bike mount will be at the bottom of this ramp.Β On reaching the Esplanade, everyone turns LEFT and then ALL cyclists will turn at the end of the Esplanade at Balmoral Road.Β Β
THE BIKE ROUTE HAS CHANGED β ADULTS NOW DO 4 LAPS
Having turned, they will then cycle to their turn point.Β Adults will cycle the entire length of the prom to Rossal Grange Lane the next turn point, by the Golf Course. This is about a 1.5 mile straight flat ride to this turn point.Β Children will turn at their marked turn point, please walk to this so they know it.Β Β
Whilst the road is wide, care must be taken at the turn points and normal road rules do apply.Β Β
ADULTS - on completing the FOURTH lap you will turn into transition.Β There will be cones showing the entry point and on the first, second and third lap adults must stay on the outside of these.Β Β
On returning to transition you must dismount where you mounted and return your bike to its racking position.Β Do not remove your helmet until you have racked your bike.Β Β
CHILDREN
Children will head for their turn point and all turn points will be labelled with signs on the road in ORANGE paint.Β Please walk to check your turn point before the race.Β Marshals will NOT tell children where to turn each entrant must know the course.Β Β
With your race number now on your front, leave transition on the sea side between the pool and Marine Hall onto the Sea Wall pavement and turn left.Β Β
Adults will run past the lakes towards the golf course and turn on the spot and run back.Β
Adults run past the coastguard point and on to the split level Prom to turn. Β
Children will turn on the marked spot, sprayed orange and marked with T1, T2 etc and return on the same route.Β Do NOT turn until you see your turn point, keep going it is there.
The 4th discipline...
Here are some tips to make race day a little bit smoother.
1) Layout your kit in the order you need it. (Always put helmet on first!)
2) What row are you in?
3) Make a note of how far you are from "swim in", walk the route and count the steps, it will help you remember your racking slot when you come out of the water.Β
4) Look for landmarks (Flags, kiosks, trees) level with your space to give a visual reference to where your spot is. (once you get near you should see the bike and your towel.
5) Don't panic, slow is smooth, smooth is fast!
By doing the above you can save minutes off your time, practice putting your kit on and off, it will make you efficient come race day!
