disciplines

The Swim

400M or 16 lengths of a 25m indoor, heated swimming pool.

The Bike

The road is OPEN to traffic so you must take care. It is narrow in many parts, and rural,

and completely flat leading to a fast racing route. As such, the rules of the road and

road awareness cycling skills must be adhered to at all times. The route is a single loop.

The bike course is flat and has few turns in it. There is a right turn in the first mile but all

other turns are to the left.

You must put your bike helmet on before you touch your bike - no bike helmet no

race. On exiting transition from the car park you are immediately on open roads and must take

care and obey the Highway Code. You must have your race number on your back.

You exit the Resort to the left, heading towards Wrea Green. You will pass directly over

a small mini roundabout and then at the next mini roundabout - outside the Grapes pub -

you must turn RIGHT.

You will then go over a railway bridge and then take the road to the left - Ballam Road.

You will ride along here, all the way to Lytham.

On approaching Lytham, Green Drive Golf Course will be on your left. You ignore the

road you are on (which will bend hard to the right) and veer with the junction to the left

which appears as straight on. You will take this veer left onto Park View.

At the next mini roundabout turn left onto Mythop Road.

At the next mini roundabout take the first exit which feels like straight on.

Follow this road through Moss Side.

Here there is a Railway Level Crossing. You must obey the law and stop if the barrier is

down. Trains are expected at 0851hrs, 0936hrs, 1051hrs, 1136hrs, 1250hrs. You will

be credited time if you are stopped. Your number will be noted by a marshal there.

You then continue along the road, back into Wrea Green.

Keep on the main road around the Green and this time go straight across the mini

roundabout and back towards Ribby Hall, entering in line with the signage - please

check this before you race.

On returning to transition, you must dismount where you mounted and return your bike

to its racking position. Do not remove your helmet until you have racked your bike.

IMPORTANT

Wrea Green has a Vintage Car rally event on this Sunday afternoon. Whilst it does not

start until the Triathlon finishes cars and traders will be arriving in the morning. They

have to obey the rules of the road but will be entering the Green from the mini

roundabout so please be careful, sensible and take care at this junction.

THE RUN

With your race number now on your front, leave transition and follow the clearly marked

route around the Ribby Hall estate Trail Run. This is the NEW run route off road on the

trail run path around the woods and park area around the holiday Village. It is

recommended you walk the route before the race. You will run out 2.5km turn and run

back the same route to the finish.

You will leave transition towards the main entrance of Ribby Hall and run out of

the Village turning right and staying on the pavement.

You will then turn right at the first road, beside the lodge and come back into the

Village before turning left onto the Running Trail. You will follow the trail all the

way around the outside of the Village, it is a single track trail run but with space to

pass in both directions, remember runners will be running in both directions.

The turn point is back on the road after the trellis area before you reach the main central

mini roundabout, here you turn and go back the same way.

On arriving at the finish you will receive your memento and drinks should be available.

The 4th discipline...

Here are some tips to make race day a little bit smoother.

1) Layout your kit in the order you need it. (Always put helmet on first!)

2) What row are you in?

3) Make a note of how far you are from "swim in", walk the route and count the steps, it will help you remember your racking slot when you come out of the water.

4) Look for landmarks (Flags, kiosks, trees) level with your space to give a visual reference to where your spot is. (once you get near you should see the bike and your towel.

5) Don't panic, slow is smooth, smooth is fast!

By doing the above you can save minutes off your time, practice putting your kit on and off, it will make you efficient come race day!
